Tuesday News & Notes from Kentucky Performance Products

Here’s a great incentive for those of you in Area IV planning to enter the Heritage Park Horse Trials September 20-21! If you send in your entry today, opening day, you will have a safety net of (damn horses) the ability to withdraw all the way up to one week before the event AND receive a full refund. That’s a heck of a lot of peace of mind for both you and your hard-working event organizer. It’s always an alphabet soup of plans when it comes to horses, but remember that it does do wonders for an event to have entries on opening day. This means they can more accurately forecast numbers for things like stabling rentals, porta-potties and staff or volunteers, pay deposits on time and overall get just a wink more sleep at night. You can find out more and enter Heritage Park here.

News & Reading

We’re very sorry to see that Caroline Powell (NZL)’s former top-level horse, Up Up and Away, passed away recently at the age of 19. After his career with Caroline, which included three CCI5* completions, “Russell” went on to bring along rising star Grace Botterell, who completed her first Advanced with the Irish gelding owned by Cameron and Mary Crawford just over a year ago. You can read more in a tribute on Horse & Hound here.

Though she be but little, she is fierce,” wrote William Shakespeare. A more accurate quote couldn’t be found to describe Allison Springer’s spitfire mare, No May Moon. Owned and bred by Nancy Winter, who’s a full-on Connemara fan, No May Moon has the personality to match her great success in the sport (with more surely yet to come!). Meet “Mayzie” and go “behind the stall door” with The Chronicle of the Horse here.

We have some new FEI Level 4 cross country designers in the house! Just named to the level, which grants clearance to design at the CCI5* and Olympic levels, are Australia’s Clayton Fredericks and Ewan Kellet, joining just 12 other designers with the same designation in the world. The announcement comes with good timing, as the Olympic Games will usually (not always) work with a cross country designer from the host nation, and Australia’s turn is coming with Brisbane 2032. Are You Cooling Your Hot Horse Correctly?

When the temperatures rise, smart horse owners rely on smart science to keep their equine partners safe. ☀️💦 Knowing how to cool your horse quickly and effectively after summer rides or competitions is more than just good horsemanship—it’s essential for their health.

💡 KPP Tip: Focus cold hosing on the largest muscle groups—shoulders, chest, flanks, and hindquarters—for rapid cooling.

Before you tack up, protect your horse from the inside out by maintaining hydration and replacing lost electrolytes with Summer Games® Electrolyte or Summer Games® Plus paste. Designed to mimic the actual composition of horse sweat, these trusted Kentucky Performance Products supplements help support optimal recovery, hydration, and performance during hot weather.

🌡️ Remember: When heat + humidity climbs, so does your horse’s risk. Stay alert, know their normal vitals, and plan ahead—your horse will thank you.
