One Big Thing: Thursday at MARS Badminton

It’s day one of competition at the MARS Badminton CCI5*, and while our first winners of the weekend — the LeMieux Grassroots Championships and Dubarry Burghley Young Event Horse — have been crowned already, it’s time to move ahead to the headlining class.
The action begins at 10:00 am BST, which is 5:00 am EST for all of you early birds. The first half of our 61-combination field will do their tests today before the Ground Jury headed up by Christina Klingspor (SWE), who is joined by Amanda Miller (USA) and Angela Tucker (GBR). In today’s groups, there are plenty of competitors likely to score a low 30s or better to take that early lead. Some of the pairs we’ll be keen to see include our first U.S. rider Cosby Green, second to go with Jos UFO de Quidam, Tom Jackson and the exciting debutant United 36, Gemma Stevens and Chilli Knight, Bubby Upton and Cola, Sarah Bullimore and Corimiro, previous podium finishers Lucy Latta and RCA Patron Saint, and of course, Jesse Campbell trying to make some improvements (it’s a JOKE Jesse we know you’re actually quite good at dressage) to his…less than satisfactory…test with Cooley Lafitte last year (don’t miss his vlog below where EN’s Tilly Berendt made him relive his crowning achievement).

If you’re on site today, you can get some learning in with a Dressage demo led by Grand Prix rider Anna Ross in the Main Arena at 12:30 pm. You can also stop by the Live at the Lakeside area for a special hosting of the Shut Up & Ride Podcast with Jenny Rudall and competitor Simon Grieve, which will take place around 5:30 p.m.
