One Big Thing: Eventing entries are open for Scone Palace International

Entries for all eventing classes at Scotland’s premier equestrian extravaganza, Scone Palace International Horse Trials (27-30 August), are now open.
This Perthshire event — the only international horse trials in Scotland — was a smash hit with competitors and spectators alike on its debut in 2025, with major stars such as double-Olympic gold medalist and reigning European champion Laura Collett and treble-Badminton and dual-Burghley winner Ros Canter singing its praises. It takes place in the beautiful grounds below Scone Palace, with all the advantages of the excellent permanent facilities of the adjacent Perth Racecourse.
Scone Palace is holding the following international eventing classes: CCI4*-L, CCI4*-S, CCI3*-L, CCI2*-L, CCI1*-Intro, CCI-S Pony 2*.
Scone Palace is also hosting the Scottish Grassroots Eventing Festival, comprising the Subaru Scottish Grassroots Championships at BE100 and BE90 level, and “open” British eventing BE100 and BE90 classes, also supported by Subaru. These will take place on Wednesday, 27 August.
LA 2028 cross-country course-designer Alec Lochore is Event Director of Scone Palace, and is designing the cross-country tracks for the main international classes, while James Willis — Badminton course-builder and course-designer of the Badminton Grassroots Championships tracks – is responsible for the BE100 and BE90 Grassroots tracks, as well as those for the CCI1* and the CCI-S Pony 2*.
Alec Lochore said, “We had a great first event in 2025 and we learned a lot about how the site works. We were delighted with what we achieved, and are now able to consolidate, build on that and make tweaks, refinements and small improvements in some areas. We are very fortunate that the ground up in Perthshire is in a far better condition than in many other parts of the country this summer, with plenty of green grass and good footing. We are lucky to have the knowledge, manpower and machines of the Perth Racecourse team to help us provide the best going we can.”
Eventing competitors may also like to take advantage of the two full days of British Showjumping classes from .90m to 1.30m on Saturday and Sunday, 329-0 August — including Saturday’s £1,000-to-the-winner Scone Palace Grand Prix, sponsored by The Malcolm Group.
There are a multitude of showing classes on Thursday and Friday, 27-28 August, including arena eventing, riding club competitions, and Pony Club Games. See the event website for full details, schedules, and to purchase tickets.
