News & Reading

A new star is on the rise (we hope!)! Monbeg Monaco, a four-year-old gelding described by his producers as “probably the most flawless horse” they’ve ever had, topped the 2025 Goresbridge Go For Gold Sale last week, selling for €90,000 to Barratt Equestrian. The sale, known for launching future 5* horses, saw a strong 84% clearance rate and drew an international roster of buyers including Olympic and 5* riders like Austin O’Connor, Oliver Townend, and Gaspard Maksud. With €1.765 million in total turnover and more than a few exciting young talents changing hands, the Irish pipeline of future eventing stars is clearly alive and well. You can read more on this sale and others from this year’s catalog here.

Want to see what goes into running an event from the inside? The USEA Youth Mentorship Program is giving young riders just that opportunity. This year, eight participants joined the officiating and management teams at Maryland International and the USEA American Eventing Championships at Galway Downs, gaining hands-on experience with everything from course design to conflict resolution. One rider summed it up best: “It gave me a great understanding of things from a TD’s point of view… getting to be on the other side of it gave me a new perspective.” You can read more about participant Rhya Bowles’ experience in the program here.

If you’ve ever spotted a breeches-clad stranger in the grocery store and fought the urge to shout, “You ride? Me too!” — this one’s for you. In her latest blog for The Chronicle of the Horse, Jamie Sindell reflects on the quiet (and not-so-quiet) moments that remind us we belong to a shared tribe: the horse people. Whether it’s tack store chats, swim lesson revelations, or pony camp friendships, it all boils down to the same truth: we find each other, and we stick. Read her heartwarming and hilariously relatable essay here.
