One Big Thing: British 4* rider hospitalized due to accident
On Friday, February 27th, British 4* event rider Louisa Milne Home suffered an accident while warming up for competition at Bogenraith Equestrian’s British Showjumping event in Durris, Scotland. She was subsequently transferred to the ICU at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary in a stable condition, although she has since remained in a non-medically-induced coma.
A recent update on her social media has informed that as of yesterday, Louisa has been moved from the ICU to the neurological ward, as she has sustained a Diffuse Axonal Injury (DAI) across a large area of her brain and still remains in a coma. DAI is a type of traumatic brain injury caused by rapid acceleration-deceleration forces — such as falling from a horse at high speed — requiring continual stabilization of the patient and intensive management to prevent further brain damage. Louisa’s family thanks the community for their support and relays that they are remaining positive at this time, taking each small change as a sign of progress.
We at EN send our love and continued prayers to Louisa and her loved ones as they navigate her care and recovery.

Whether you’re preparing a horse for the colder months or transitioning them back into spring, you can take several practical steps to manage your horse’s diet and keep your horse healthy during these seasonal turning points.
While we’re all excited for our horses to start heading back out to pasture, here are a few helpful tips to keep in mind as we start entering the warmer months!
