One Big Thing: Behind the Scenes at a CCI5*

A view of cross country control at Kentucky. Photo via John Kyle on Facebook.

No matter which event is on your bucket list, it’s important to remember that the big shows (ANY show, really) go far beyond the four- and two-legged stars. The team of people working behind the scenes is nearly innumerable, and while they may not splash on the headlines or be passing through the mixed zone for interviews, they matter just as much.

The view above comes from broadcaster John Kyle, who took us for a peek behind the scenes at Kentucky this past weekend. This view comes from the control box, where multiple officials, veterinarians and volunteers are tasked with watching every corner of that cross country course like a hawk. With horse welfare paramount and safety always at the top of mind, it’s no small feat to ensure response is at the ready. We’d like to say thank you to all of the individuals who work so hard without much in the way of recognition. We see you, and we appreciate you!
