Roy Van Beek Wins the Paardensport Vlaanderen Talent of the Year!

Mechelen, Belgium – December 26, 2025 – Twelve young prospects were awarded the highest status of T1 talent by the Talents Programme of Paardensport Vlaanderen. Each year, one rider from this select group is named Talent of the Year. This time, the honour goes to Roy Van Beek (23).

Van Beek made his breakthrough at five-star level this season, earning selections for the Nations Cups CSIO 5* of Hickstead and Calgary, as well as the GCT Grand Prix events in Madrid and Valkenswaard. The expert panel was unanimous in its decision: Roy Van Beek is a well-deserved Talent of the Year 2025.

Roy Van Beek (BEL) became Belgian champion in his final junior year with the stallion Chacco Me Biolley, a partnership that also delivered team gold at the European Championships. He began his professional career as a stable rider at the Regenwortelhoeve and, at the age of 21, chose to go independent with RVB Sporthorses.

Roy Van Beek acknowledges that his T1 talent status within Paardensport Vlaanderen has opened up many opportunities for his development as a rider: “Being recognised as a T1 talent has given me more opportunities. It gives you a boost and builds confidence. I don’t come from a well-known name. Van Beek isn’t a famous surname. Still, I was picked up thanks to the objective criteria of the Talents Programme of Paardensport Vlaanderen.”

That Roy Van Beek is passionate about horses is clear from the path he has taken so far. At the age of 16, he left school and worked during the summer months of July and August at Regenwortelhoeve, owned by Ludo Tielen. In September, Tielen offered him a contract as a rider.

Van Beek worked there full-time and continued to ride several horses at home alongside his job. Horses have always been part of his life. His mother rode before stopping when he was born, while his father is still actively riding today.

His great role model is Harrie Smolders (NED). Like Roy, he started from scratch and built his career through hard work and perseverance. Roy Van Beek (BEL) explains: “There is one quote from Harrie Smolders that has always stayed with me: if you can make a horse better, you can earn a living from it. I still look up to him. Harrie also started out as a stable rider, just like I did. He proves that even without resources, and through sheer hard work, you can build an impressive career. He went on to become world number one.”

Timing also plays a crucial role in a rider’s career, and Roy Van Beek (BEL) knows that the right horse has to come along at the right moment. For him, that horse is currently Cavoiro, a ten-year-old stallion owned by Johannes Heinrichs, with whom he jumped his first five-star courses this year.

As Talent of the Year, Roy Van Beek (BEL) received a training package worth €7,500, an impressive trophy crafted by Peter Elaut of Misterteak, and a Quadboard by Micro4TRO.

The Talents Programme is supported by our partners Sport Vlaanderen, Cavalor, Epplejeck and CWD. With 78 riders included in the Talents Programme, the future already looks promising. These young riders continue to receive tailored support from Paardensport Vlaanderen in their personal development, including training sessions, mental coaching and physical support.
