One Big Thing: Adelaide CCI5* Beckons as Preps Heat Up
Happy Monday! It’s high 5* season around the world as riders from every corner prep for their respective major spring destinations. We’ll kick off the CCI5* calendar this year with the Adelaide Equestrian Festival CCI5* April 16-19. This weekend, we had two CCI4*-S events serving as preps for both Adelaide as well as, in a few short months, World Championships selection.
Out of this weekend emerge two winners: first up is Samuel Jeffree, who won the Horseland 4*-S at Wandin Park in Victoria with Santoro, a 14-year-old warmblood gelding who has now collected four wins at the 4*-S or 4*-L level. They’ve been on top form looking back through last season and should be feeling strong for a second crack at Adelaide next month.
Also a quick note: Sophia Hill kept her busy season going, making another trip down to Australia after finishing on the podium at the Grand-Prix Eventing Showcase in Aiken last month and finishing second in the 4*-S at Wandin Park with Tulara Baltango, an 11-year-old Australian-bred warmblood gelding aiming for his CCI5* debut at Adelaide next month. Meanwhile, Sophia’s off-track Thoroughbred, Humble Glory, will compete at TerraNova’s 4*-S this coming weekend in Florida ahead of Kentucky at the end of April.

Australian Olympian Shane Rose took home the win in the Asset Hire Construction CCI4*-S at Canberra International Horse Trials with Holy Moses, a 9-year-old Thoroughbred-Warmblood cross who earns his fifth FEI win and first at the 4* level.
