Le Printemps des Sports Équestres: Olympic Hopefuls in Fontainebleau this Week for the CSI 5*

Fontainebleau, France – April 23, 2024 –  With the standard options for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games just a few days away, Le Printemps des Sports Équestres will be playing host to the world’s show jumping and dressage elite at the Grand Parquet in Fontainebleau this week, on their way to the gardens of the Palace of Versailles. Let’s take a closer look at those competing.

Who Will Be the First Add their Name to the List of Winners of the the New CSI 5*?

This year, Le Printemps des Sports Équestres will be playing host to a CSI 5*, the highest level of international competition, with three days of exciting classes featuring the elite of world show jumping. Seven members of the World Top 15 and a number of combinations that are in fine form will be among the sixty riders taking part. The World No. 1, Henrik von Eckermann ( SWE), Switzerland’s Steve Guerdat ( SUI), World No. 3 and the reigning European individual champion, France’s Julien Épaillard ( FRA ), Simon Delestre ( FRA ) and Kevin Staut ( FRA ), respectively fourth, seventh and fifteenth in the World Top 15, as well as Austria’s Max Kühner ( AUT), World No. 8 and Great Britain’s Harry Charles ( GBR ), World No. 15, have all confirmed they will be competing at this new CSI 5* event. Facing them will be a host of contenders aiming for victory. Belgium will be counting on its team bronze medallists from the Tokyo Olympics,

Grégory Wathelet ( World No. 26 ), Pieter Devos ( World No. 28 ) and Jérôme Guéry ( World No. 44 ), who is also the reigning World individual silver medallist and is back at the highest level with his stallion Quel Homme du Hus. Sweden’s Peder Fredricson ( SWE), reigning World and Olympic team champion and Olympic individual silver medallist in Tokyo, will also be present. Scott Brash ( GBR ) and Joseph Stockdale, World team bronze medallists in Herning, will represent Great Britain.

Marlón Módolo Zanotelli ( BRA ), bronze medallist at the most recent Pan-American Games, will be representing Brazil alongside Yuri Mansur ( BRA ) and Santiago Lambre ( BRA ). Six riders will be competing for Germany, including European individual silver medallist Philipp Weishaupt ( GER ), Daniel Deusser ( GER ), as well as Hans Dieter-Dreher ( GER ) and Jana Wargers ( GER ), both members of the winning team at the 2023 FEI Nations Cup Final. Greece’s Ioli Mytilineou ( GRE), Switzerland’s Pius Schwizer ( SUI), Luxembourg’s Victor Bettendorf ( IRL ) and Ireland’s Mark McAuley ( IRL ) will also be taking part.

As for France, Roger-Yves Bost ( FRA ), the winner of last year’s GL events 4* Grand Prix in this same ring, will also be joined by GL events partner rider Olivier Perreau ( FRA ), Grégory Cottard ( FRA ) and Marc Dilasser ( FRA ), all featured on the French Equestrian Federation’s Olympic pre-selection list, as well as Julien Anquetin ( FRA ), who has been really successful over the past few months, Jeanne Sadran ( FRA ), who has just taken part in her first FEI World Cup Final at just 22-years-old, Philippe Rozier ( FRA ), 2016 Rio Olympic team gold medallist and Mégane Moissonnier ( FRA ), who won the 3* Grand Prix in St Tropez last week with Bracadabra.

Who will come out on top in the classes imagined by course designers Grégory Bodo ( FRA ) and Santiago Varela Ullastres ( ESP), who will be officiating in Versailles in a few weeks ’ time, among all the champions competing?
