North Salem, New York, United States – May 09, 2025 – Thirty-five entries contested Alan Wade’s 16-effort, 1.45m course in Friday’s $25,000 Old Salem Farm Jumper Classic at the 2025 Old Salem Farm Spring Horse Shows, with many of them keeping smooth, steady paces despite the rain. Ireland’s Jordan Coyle (IRL) took top honors with his double-clear time of 30.146 seconds aboard Ariso, and World #8 McLain Ward (USA) with La Serra (0/0/30.243) and Snapchat Van De Broekkant Z (0/0/30.710) to second and third, respectively.
Friday afternoon’s featured classes, which included Evergate Stables’ $65,000 New York Welcome Stake, were rained out. The Welcome Stake will now take place in the International Arena on Saturday at 9:00 a.m., while Saturday’s $40,000 FEI 1.45m Jump-off presented by Old Salem Farm is rescheduled for 8:00 a.m. on Sunday.
One of the premier stops on the American hunter-jumper horse show circuit, the Old Salem Farm Spring Horse Shows host competitions for riders of all levels and ages, ranging from young children on ponies to Olympic veterans aboard their grand prix mounts. Week 1 (May 6-11) is USEF ‘National-6’ rated for hunters and jumpers and designated FEI CSI3*; Week 2 (May 13-18) is USEF ‘Premier-6’ rated and designated FEI CSI4*.
Of the 35 entries in the $25,000 Old Salem Farm Jumper Classic on Friday, 15 made it to the jump-off, and 12 posted double-clear scores. Coyle made quick work of Wade’s track with his first mount, Falkirk Farm’s 12-year-old Oldenburg gelding Action T, who ultimately landed in fourth place with a time of 31.295 seconds. He used his knowledge of the course to shave a full second off that time and bring home the win aboard Ariso, Elan Farm’s 14-year-old Swedish Warmblood gelding (0/0/30.146).
Ward also put in efficient rides with multiple mounts, claiming second and third aboard La Serra and Snapchat Van de Broekkant Z, respectively. He first overtook Coyle and Action T with Marta Mattox’s 11-year-old Holsteiner mare, posting a double-clear score in 30.243 seconds and ultimately earning second place. Then he returned with his, Susan Heller and Beechwood Stables’ 9-year-old Zangersheide gelding to stop the clock in 30.710 seconds and lock out the podium in third.
Rounding out the top five was Coyle’s countryman Jonathan Corrigan (IRL) aboard Tricolor MB, a 10-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding owned by Debra Wycoff and Twin Oaks Ventures LLC (0/0/31.734).
