Basel, Switzerland, – January 10, 2025 – Henrik von Eckermann (SWE) honored his status as the best rider in the world on Friday at the 2025 Longines CHI Classics – Basel CSI 5*-W. The Swede and Iliana impressed the ost to claim the coveted crown of the €202,000 Longines Grand Prix of Basel CSI 5*-W, the second most important class of the week at the event.
Out of the forty-seven entries in the first round, a whopping seventeen managed to qualify for the tiebreaker. In the jump-off the number one ranked rider in the world showed his supremacy, guiding the Dufour Stables’ 12-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare (Cardento x Gentleman) flawlessly again. Steve Guerdat (SUI) was faster aboard Lancelotta but their time of 37.45 seconds came at the expense of one pole down, handing the victory to the pair representing Sweden who stopped the timers in 38.68 seconds.
Simon Delestre (FRA) and Dexter Fontenis Z dashed towards second place, registering no penalties in 39.01 seconds.
Three different nations claimed the top three positions on the podium as Denis Lynch (IRL) and Vistogrand earned bronze honors in 39.71 seconds.
