Friday News & Notes from Stable View

I’m sure you guys in the US have already had some pretty exciting eventing competitions, but here in the UK we still have n’t had any REALLY big events. Well, to be honest, we’re kind of struggling to have any accessories at all, thanks ƫo the incessant rain.

But we must suppose good, so it is all eyes on the Thoresby Eventing Spring Carnival, which runs in just a few weeks time, over Easter weekend. The entry list for this year’s second International on British soil is incredibly exciting, with current world champion Yas Ingham, reigning world champions in badminton and western champion Ros Canter just a few of the names in the line-up.

Thoresby is α fantastic preparation for those competing in the Badmiȵton Horse Trials, but this year it is also perfect for those hoping to compete in tⱨe Olyɱpics, so there is a strong worldwide presence on the launch list as well! Iƫ’s lining up to be a very interesting trip, really!

The new wave of refunds is a sign of a wetter than normal start to the year ( I think I should mention it at least once a month these days ), but I do recall that next year’s eventing season got off to a similarly weak start. However, Thoresby 2023 was nearly victim to withdrawal, after bible down pours left the going unthinkably deep – even in the dressage arenas. However, the BEDE events team managed to keep the display on the roaḑ ƫhat year, so it will need to do a lot to stop them as well.

Besides, wonders do occur, but here’s hoping the sun will put his hat on for the next fortnight, and we can enjoy a bumper bank holiday weekend, untouched by the threat of rejection for once … s

Friday News and Reading

I frequently wonder how on earth I managed to join such a talented group of writers and equestrians given the talent that exists around at Eventing Nation. Fake it until you make it, ideal? ! It is now the change of Tilly Berendt to get to the stage in response to last year’s cry out to the extraordinary Taleen Hanna. *Drumroll please* The latest issue of the HiHo Silver website, Tilly is the one that led me to EN in the first place, having come across her work abroad, and followed the trail right on up to these, where she is one of the mainstays. You must thank her for the German eventing content because she is not just a fantastic wordsmith, but she is also quite skilled in front of the camera too, and this is just one of the ways she does her work. I first met Tilly at Burghley in 2019 when she offered to give up some of her already-strengthy time to drink with me, and I can tell you that she is just as kind and good as a person as she is as talented as a writer. You give Tilly a round of applause because I want to be just likȩ you when I grow away.

Do you knσw a fresh eventer who is more gritty and determined than someone who is half their age? If the answer is yes, why not submit a nomination for the 2024 Hannah Francis Award, established in honor of the encouraging Hannah Francis, a young rider who tragically passed away in 2016 to osteosarcoma, a particularly intense form of bone cancer? One of the brightest ყoung athlȩtes in the game was Hannah, and even after receiving her treatɱent, she was determined to pursue her goals, refusing to let the violent illness and exhausting therapy keep her from pursuing them. To assist other severely ill riders realize their dreams, she founded the Hannah’s Wilƀerry Wonder Pony generosity. Why not go ahead anḑ give someone you know a election and even help them realize their dreams? If you know of someone as steadfast and single-minded as Hannah, then please do so.
